Elkington & Co. Silver-plated 12-piece Antique Fish Set In Oak Case

This elegant, beautifully engraved, silver-plated fish/seafood set for six was made by Elkington & Company, Birmingham, England, and probably dates to the late Victorian era. Included are six forks and six knives.

All pieces feature lovely mother of pearl handles and floral engraving. The forks have three elongated tines, which make them ideal for shrimp, oysters, shellfish and other sea foods, and they are about 6½ in length. The nicely balanced knives, with their spatula blades and sharp points, are about 7¼' in length. Very light engraving and inking?

On the handles of the pieces has faded over time but suggests the possibility of a monogram at some point. The fitted oak case measures about 12½" wide x 9½" deep x 2½ tall, and the interior is lined to protect the pieces with black velvet fittings on the base and lightly padded black silk under the hinged lid. Original leather on the bottom of the case.

No hallmarks found, but the case carries the company named: ELKINGTON & CO. Which stands for Elkington & Company Limited. Elkington was founded in the 1830s, became a prime producer of silver-plating, and developed a special process for electroplated silver and silver-plate. In the 1960s, the company became British Silverware. The pieces in this set are in very good condition, as is the case.
