Century Christofle France RUBANS Ornate Leaves & Ribbons Silver Plate 34 pc Set. Offering an antique 34 piece set of flatware in the Rubans Ornate pattern by Christofle, France. (Please see description of the Rubans patterns below).

Each piece has the CHRISTOFLE hallmark as well as the C weight and scales over 34 C. The backs are monogramed with the intertwined letters.

The monogram looks much like scrollwork and is quite lovely! 8 8 ½ Dinner Forks (2 ½ tine). 8 7 ¼ Salad Forks (2 tine). 8 8 ¼ European Place /Oval Soup Spoons. 8 7 ¼ Place Spoon /Oval Soup Spoon.

1 9 ¼ Serving Spoon. 1 9 ½ Serving Fork.

Knives are not included in this set because traditionally in France, knives were made by specialist knife makers known as Artisans Couteliers (cutler). Silversmiths didn't work with steel and cutlers didn't work with silver. Christofle eventually hired it's own cutlers but only really got into knife production with the advent of stainless steel in the early 20th century. Christofle has two different versions of the Rubans pattern. The first version, #5208, is the most common and simpler of the two, and can be identified by a small bow at the bottom of the flatware piece. The second version, #5307, is much more intricate in detail and can be identified by a leaf at the bottom and the top, crossed ribbons and lines running up the front and back. The second version is antique and less common. Set is in very good antique condition: there are scratches commensurate with age and use however no plate loss noted.
